Economic Development

IRIS USA groundbreakingHumboldt Industrial Park is mainly in Hazle Towship. The park is one of the largest in Pennsylvania and is home to some of the top Fortune 500 companies. The park is home to many national and international companies, including IRIS USA (whose groundbreaking ceremony is pictured above), which is headquartered in Japan.

Economic development is a vital part of Hazle Township.

CAN DO, Greater Hazleton’s economic development organization, was founded in 1956 with the help of community leaders trying to help local residents find employment after the demise of the coal industry.

CAN DO has created three industrial parks (Humboldt, Valmont and McAdoo), in addition to the CAN DO Corporate Center in nearby Butler Township.

Humboldt Industrial Park, the largest of the parks, is located primarily in Hazle Township. Humboldt is more than 5 miles long, and approximately 10,000 employees work at a variety of companies in the park. Commercial development Humboldt Station, which borders the industrial park, is also in Hazle Township.

Additionally, about half of Valmont Industrial Park is situated in the township.

Township supervisors work closely with CAN DO and other economic development agencies, including Penn’s Northeast, to bring new projects to Hazle Township.

Hazle Township, in collaboration with CAN DO and other groups in Greater Hazleton, has assisted in developing 366 acres of former mine land at Cranberry Creek. The site is now available for commercial, retail, recreational and residential development. Visit www.cranberrycreek.org to learn more.
